Putting on a blog layout: Note: click on the bold words for help with locating things.

First go to your home page and click on manage blog. If you are using the new home skin, go under control pannel and click on the blog button.

Then from that page, there should be a few boxes on the left side. The fourth one down will be called my controls. Click on it the link that says customise blog.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the restore to default button. It is second from the right.

You then should see a bunch of circles checked yes. They will have headings like show gender, show status and such. Change these all from yes to no.

Under the page section, there will be a circle beside your own header HTML. Click this circle then paste the code into the large box to the right.

Now simply scroll to the bottom and click the button farthest to the right that says update.

You will however need to read the top blog on each blog layout preview because there may be additional steps required. These will be small but necessary.
